The Junior Section Windmill Hill Golf Club is keen to develop junior golfers, as we see them as the future of golf. In the past we have actively supported the juniors and have been fortunate to have some good golfers who have low single figure handicaps or have played off scratch and indeed, some of our juniors have gone on to turn professional. Over recent years we admit that our support has not been as active as it probably should have been, but we are now in the process of rectifying this situation. We are arranging more competitions, both in number and variety of type, assisting with professional tuition fees, through generous donations from adult members, arranging matches between the Juniors and adult members and/or the Seniors section and encouraging them to play in open competitions at other local clubs. We are also trying to have some indoor activities and to involve Parents. So if you can encourage your Parents to come along and give us some help, they will be most welcome. Our intent is to make the juniors feel more a part of the Club and to help them develop into all round golfers and good citizens. We want to ensure that Windmill Hill Golf Club is known as a club that supports juniors. Our current Junior Organiser, Chris Milne, is a teaching professional at Windmill Hill and was a junior. He is an excellent example to our juniors of what is possible with dedication. In addition, another of our juniors, Joe Winfield who plays off scratch, intends to start his professional training later in 2008. We wish him all the best for his future. To join Windmill Hill Golf Club just fill in a Membership Application form, which is obtainable from the Club Steward or the Professional Shop, preferably with a Proposer and Seconder who knows you and are adult members of the Club. However, we realise that this may be a problem, particularly if you are new to the area and don’t know many people, so fill in the details and we will arrange for the necessary signatures. Juniors are not charged a fee for joining the Club and up to the age of 18 on the first of January in each year they pay half the adult subscription per year (£37.50 for 2008). Up to the age of 14 on the first of January in each year they pay a reduced subscription per year (£20.00 for 2008). In addition, all golfers are required to pay a yearly affiliation fee to the Berks, Bucks and Oxon (BB & O) Golf Union, which is out of our hands. This website is in its early days of development, but we intend to include details of forthcoming events, matters of interest (holes-in-one for instance), results, etc. If you are not already a member and would like to join, come along and see us, YOU WILL BE MOST WELCOME. |
