Welcome to the Windmill Hill Golf Club Website

Who are we?

Windmill Hill Golf Club is a friendly Private Members club on the Pay-and-Play golf course alongside the A421, Standing Way, between its junctions with V1 Snelshall Street and V2 Tattenhoe Street, with access from the V2.

The Golf Course

The Course was designed by Henry Cotton (winner of the Open Golf Championship in 1934) and was opened in 1972. The Golf Course is owned by Milton Keynes Council and since 1995 has been leased to Golf Course Management (Milton Keynes) Ltd. (GCM) who operate the facilities as a private business.

The course is basically flat with no steep hills to climb (good for the heart) and has only short walks between greens and tees. It measures 6,385 yards from the yellow tees (par 73 and SSS 70) and measures 6,720 yards from the white tees (par 73 and SSS 72). In the winter months, depending on the weather, the Course may be shortened with play being from forward grass tees and/or mats. Due to the size of the greens, we never play on temporary greens at any time during the year.

Now that the trees have matured, the Course is very picturesque with a wide variety of different types and it has become a good test of golf, with care being required from the tees. However, the larger greens are some compensation by helping with shots that don’t quite go where intended.

The Course has a floodlit driving range with covered bays and practice bunker. In addition there are practice putting greens and a chipping area. There is also a well-stocked Professional’s Shop and lessons are available from the PGA teaching staff.

Windmill Golf Club

As stated above, we are a friendly Private Members club, but we are open for new members. We have no waiting list and new members are most welcome.

The Club was formed in 1972 and the Members built the New Clubhouse in 1980. The Clubhouse is a single storey building with a lounge (with a small dance floor/pool table area), dining room, kitchen, committee room and changing rooms/toilets for gents and ladies, complete with showers. The lounge and dining rooms are served by a well stocked bar providing a range of beers, lagers, spirits, soft drinks and wines, all at reasonable prices. We have a large screen satellite TV showing a range of sports events, including golf, football, rugby, etc. We have an active programme of competitions and entertainments and members are encouraged to take part in all events.

To join Windmill Hill Golf Club just fill in a Membership Application form, which is obtainable from the Club Steward or the Professional’s Shop, preferably with a Proposer and Seconder who knows you and are adult members of the Club. However, we realise that this may be a problem, particularly if you are new to the area and don’t know many people, so fill in the details and we will arrange for the necessary signatures.

Membership subscription for adults for 2008 is just over 20p per day with reductions for seniors (over 65) and juniors (under 18).

If you are not already a member, come and join us,

YOU WILL BE MOST WELCOME.
